The Sporting Capital loan fund is the first social investment fund focused on supporting the development of community sports organisations and organisations that deliver impact through sport. Our goal is to help these organisations to become sustainable, using our investment to support the development of new, or retain and expand existing, revenue streams.
We focus on this market because we know sport, physical activity, and the environment in which it is delivered, can have a profound impact on peoples’ lives. It can also deliver broader community impact that improves the lives of those involved and the communities in which the organisation is based. And there is a large body of evidence that supports the impact of sport on delivering non-sporting social outcomes.
Despite this sports sector organisations are vastly under-represented in the social investment market.
We want to try and address this imbalance through Sporting Capital by directly increasing investment in the sector, and helping to enlarge the market itself by encouraging and enabling further social investment to enter.
Our vision is to help to create new, and develop existing, Community Sports Businesses. These can be thought of as Community Businesses, which are now well understood by the social investment market, with a sports focus / mission.
Sporting Capital is focused on supporting existing community organisations and clubs to become Community Sports Businesses, and to help existing Community Sports Businesses and Sport for Development Organisations to develop and expand their offer, and their social and community impact.
To understand our own impact, and progress against our mission, we have commissioned Substance, a leading social research company to provide independent annual impact reviews. The first-year assessment will be available here in the second half of 2018.
